If you’d like to take part in an in-depth exploration of some of America’s amazing national parks, the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) offers a cool program called “ParkScapes,” which provides exclusive guided journeys through the parks. The advantage of ParkScapes vs. going it alone is that you get to travel with expert guides who can impart illuminating context and background about the beautiful natural wonders that you’re visiting. Plus, all the trips are environmentally conscious, and your guides will be able to take you off the beaten path to places where wildlife sightings are abundant.
I’ve got my eye on the “Arches, Canyonlands, & Monument Valley” trip in September 2012. At first the $2,695 price tag seems a bit steep, but keep in mind that it includes all accommodations, meals, ground transportation, entrance fees and the services of a guide. And I’m guessing it would be a much more enriching experience than a week at a resort or on a cruise ship.
