A New Boutique Lodging Choice in Palm Springs

Because of its proximity to Los Angeles, I’ve made quite a few trips to Palm Springs, and have tried out a plethora of lodgings, from the more luxurious Viceroy (the top-end villas are awesome!) to the budget Caliente Tropics (has potential but needs to focus on maintenance and cleanliness) and lovely Desert Star Hotel (an adorable oasis tucked away on a quiet street).

In a recent issue of Sunset, I discovered a new boutique Palm Springs hotel that’s next on my list of places to check out–The Pool House. It’s definitely an intimate property, with just six rooms on site. The architecture is mid-century modern, and room decor features a clean black and white palette with pops of blue here and there. Rooms are positioned around a cozy heated pool dotted with chaise lounges and cabanas for lounging in the sun. Even though it’s a tiny hotel, I love that there’s still a poolside bar to order cocktails from, and even ping pong and pool tables if you’re fiending for some recreation. Rates are totally reasonable, ranging from $109 – $169 depending on the season.

Keep in mind: Given the small number of rooms at The Pool House, I’d recommend booking far in advance. Also, expect an intimate vibe, and be ready to socialize with fellow guests as you hang out around the pool.

Bonus tip(s): For a tasty lunch or brunch, try Jake’s at 644 N. Palm Canyon Drive. On the first day of Coachella, I found the wait to be a lot shorter than nearby Cheeky’s, and their egg sandwich was SO good.
