Santa Barbara is home to plenty of five star, uber-expensive resorts, but if you need lodging with a more modest price tag, check out any of these three cute motels:
Agave Inn: Located close to downtown Santa Barbara, this boutique motel (there are 13 rooms total) packs in a lot of amenities for a very reasonable price. All rooms have flat screen TVs, iPod docks, refrigerators, microwaves, a/c, and heaters (and some have full kitchens), and guests receive free breakfast, internet, parking and loaner bikes.
Motel 6 Santa Barbara Beach #1: This property was the very first member of the Motel 6 chain, and it was recently renovated to reflect a clean, modern design sensibility (think IKEA). Rates are typically cheap, and though amenities are scarce and rooms are on the tiny side, it’s still a great deal. Plus, it’s right across the street from the beach!
The Presidio Motel: This is a sister motel to the Agave Inn, and it boasts similar amenities. The fun part about the Presidio is that each room has a different design scheme, so you have the fun task of scanning through room pictures and picking which one you prefer.
Keep in mind: While close to beach, the Motel 6 in Santa Barbara is a bit removed from the restaurants, bars and shops of State Street. You’ll have to drive or take public transport to get over there.
Bonus tip(s): Last year, National Geographic Traveler published a useful article on wine tasting in Santa Barbara. Click here to check it out!
