If you’re looking for a cool place to stay in Toronto, I highly recommend the Toronto Coach House, a handsome little standalone house in the Summerhill neighborhood that I originally found via airbnb. The Coach House is located behind a larger home on a nice, quiet tree-lined street, and its two levels are thoughtfully laid out and well decorated. The Summerhill subway station is only a few blocks away, and there are a bunch of restaurants and shops within walking distance on Yonge Street.
Your host Terese is very friendly and accommodating, and there are nice little extras that you won’t get at a hotel, like a fridge stocked with farm-fresh eggs and other provisions and a nice selection of DVDs and books about Toronto. Rates are about $155/night (Canadian dollars), which is a great value considering what you get.
Keep in mind: The maximum number of guests allowed is two, and infants/toddlers are not permitted. Complimentary wi-fi and parking are available!
Bonus tip(s): A great time to visit is during the Toronto International Film Festival in September. The weather’s not too cold and the programmers do a great job of picking a diverse array of films. Many of the screenings include Q&As with the director and cast members. Finally, a nice place to eat near the Coach House is Earth, which has a seasonal menu showcasing fresh local ingredients.
